Cupboard:
Hey, this is Cupboard from The Cupboard in Cincinnati, Ohio. Today on Cupboard Artist Insights, we’re in Las Vegas to talk to someone with over a decade in pipe making experience. We carry all of their products at The Cupboard.
Corey Davie from Empire Tubes, welcome. What first attracted you to be a pipe maker?

Corey Davie:
What motivated me the most was just the part to stand different from the societies rules of being tied down to a 9 to 5 job. Being more in my own time, that was one of my main goals. Being an artistic person, and wanted to be on my own time. Cupboard:
You’ve been doing this for a long time.

Corey Davie:
I’ve been blowing glass for 14 years.

Cupboard:
Glassblowing is a labor of love in great artistry, but it also has its share of difficulties as a craft. What’s your experience with this?

Corey Davie:
I think one of the most difficult things that I’m battling right now, is just too much heat on my face. I need to have more skin protection, more face shields, whatever it is. I can tell that I’m starting to have some face damage. Other than that, I wear gloves and full protection. Arm Kevlar guards and stuff.

Cupboard:
Anything else?

Corey Davie:
I keep myself stretched, and I keep myself well-healthy.

Cupboard:
We’d love to help you stay in contact with your fans. How can our viewers find you?

Corey Davie:
We are on Instagram as emiretubes.com, and you can also friend us on Facebook the same way. I personally, I’m ImperialOne. I used to be ImperialGlass, and I still go to that. Some of the West Coast guys know me as ImperialGlass.
I blow everything by hand still, without a lathe. In my shop on bench rollers, the old-fashioned way.

Cupboard:
That’s outstanding. It’s great for our viewers to know how much hard work goes into the glass that they buy.
This is Cupboard from The Cupboard, reporting this edition of Cupboard Presents: Artist Insights, from Las Vegas with Corey Davie of Empire. Corey, thanks for all of this cool insight into the world of glassblowing, and for being our guest today.
