Cupboard:
Hey, this is Cupboard from The Cupboard. Today on Cupboard Artist Insights, we’re at Las Vegas to talk to Brian Houck, a representative of one of the highest acclaimed companies in the glassblowing business. Brian, welcome. Let’s start. Why is RooR Tech so well known?

Brian Houck:
Sure. RooR is most well-known because, for the past 20 years, we’ve been the glass on glass in the game. Martin Birzle, the owner of RooR, was the first to put glass on glass into the use of a water pipe. That’s initially what made RooR world-famous, for the most part, is the application of the ground joint into the glass game. It’s changed everything for everybody.

Since then, we stuck with our standard tubes and had continuity of brand. Like an old pair of Converse, they don’t really go out of style, because they functionally work as good as any tube in the world. American market has demanded more in the lines of … [inaudible] We have many perks in the RooR Tech line. The RooR Tech line has built-in diffusion apparatus. It’s been developed over the past few years. It’s constantly changing, as opposed to the RooR line, which is constantly constant.

We use a lot of artwork as part of our expression to the community. We use artists such as Dale Sommers, Terry from Fatass Glass. We do collabs with Liberty Glass, Merc’s Art Mind Collective. We have items like the tiki line. We’ve done collabs recently with Illadelph, RooR Tech, and Liberty Glass as well.

Cupboard:
These are available at The Cupboard, right?

Brian Houck:
You can pick them up at The Cupboard, up in Clifton. They’re good friends of mine. I’m a Cincinnati boy myself, and so I’m very familiar with that store. They’ve been around for a long time, served us in that community very well.
